The night the food trucks came out to play

Ever since Irene, it’s been rain city up in this piece. Living in South Florida, you get used to the brief rain in the afternoon just about everyday. But this week, it seems like it’s been non stop. That would usually be a good thing because I feel that rain is a legit excuse to not do anything (while a real thing that is affecting my sinuses and making me feel like crap) But when you have plans and don’t want to have to cancel, it’s not a good thing and are forced to power through anyways. Case in point-Food truck round up at the Hard Rock Casino on Thursday night.

Definitely did not look promising. The rain was starting to let up but there was a still a drizzle coming down which affected the the turn out in our favor! I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks and the rain wasn’t going to get in between me and some truck food. The fact that I had a blogger meet up with Natalie and Eunice was an added bonus that I didn’t want to miss either. We stopped at the first food truck in sight, Ms. Cheezious, a grilled cheese food truck. From the crowd that gathered around there, it was a solid truck to stop at for food.

I won’t lie, my first initial thought wasn’t positive. I mean, cmon, I love the cheese but how creative could one get with grilled cheese?  Well apparently, very because they had an array of cheese-o-licious sandwiches on their menu. Not only do they have specialty grilled cheese sandwiches but they also have a build your own if you’re looking to be ambitious. We split two sandwiches between the four of us—on the left, the Grilled Harvest-Spiced apples and havarti cheese grilled to perfection on multi-grain bread and the Goat Cheese & Prosciutto on the right-.Goat cheese, prosciutto, tomato and arugula on marble rye bread

Insert choir of angels singing here, the Goat Cheese & Prosciutto immediately won my heart with it’s abundance of salty flavor. I wanted it to never end but alas, everything comes to an end at some point. I could have ordered another one….ok maybe two more….that’s how fabulous it was.

The Grilled Harvest was a more sweet and savory sandwich. I wasn’t expecting the combo to taste good but it was quite delightful.

The next stop was to Sugar Rush. Natalie mentioned that they blend a piece of cake in the milkshakes and when we told me that, I knew I had to have one. Eunice and I made our way there and agreed to split one because who needs an entire shake to themselves? Well, no one really, but I know I could have downed one in a few minutes (pending that the brain freeze gods are being nice)

We waited a few minutes and were greeted by the gorgeous shake

Oh yes, that would be their red velvet milkshake with a frickin slice of red velvet blended in there!!!! Holy *@#% my mouth, it was one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life. You can even see the cake bits in there and thank God Sugar Rush is a smart business because they hook you up with the big straws as well. Nothing more awkward then trying to suck a piece of a cake out of a shake with a small straw right?

So we had something salty, sweet and that means it was back to salty and savory. The next stop was Purple People Eatery

Apparently, I was craving cheese hardcore because we got the Mac N Jack-herb-crusted broccoli Mac n Cheese with Monterrey Jack, Colby, sharp cheddar, and smoked gouda.

Since it had broccoli in it, it made me feel a bit better since there was a major lack of vitamins that day. I am not a huge fan of crumb crusted casseroles but the herbs mixed in made all the difference in the world. The smoked gouda made it all the more glorious. They have bison burgers on their menu and I will definitely be trying that the next time I see them!

After the food truck fail in Fort Lauderdale, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get my grub on with the food trucks of Miami. This proved me wrong plus there were tons of other sure to be winners there that I didn’t get a chance to try. I wish they had a map or a list of all the food trucks that were in attendance because that would be a great way to keep track of the ones there. They have a food truck round up every Thursday at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. If you’re in the area, you should definitely check it out seeing that it’s free to park and attend plus weather permitting, they show a free movie on the big screen in the parking lot. The beautiful scenery just makes it even better.

What kind of food truck would you open up? I would open up one called “Ni Ni’s Panini’s, if not, definitely a traveling coffee truck!

We have a grilled cheese truck here in L.A. and it’s so fantastic. I am obsessed. Grilled cheese with mac & cheese and short rib is my favorite (how rich does that sound?)

Um that red velvet shake? Holy crap.

I would open a food truck specifically for hangover type food. Sliders, nachos, potato wedges, cupcakes and such. It would all be gluten-free (in my dreams) and have veggies so there’s some healthiness to it.

OMG I will dreaming about mac & cheese with short ribs tonight…..not sure if thats what you meant but if so, sounds heavenly.

I would totally go to your food truck! I was at Mellow Mushroom tonight and thought of you, they have a number of GF beers.

This is pathetic, but I’ve never eaten from a food truck and we only have one–ONE–in my city. It’s new and has just started advertising and showing up at the Farmer’s Market, but I guess it’s nominated for some national award, so I should probably check it out.

Are you following “The Great Food Truck Race” on Food Network? I didn’t want to get sucked in, but apparently I’ll watch anything on FN in the 9pm Sunday night time slot. If I had a truck, it would sell directions to someone who could actually cook something other than vegetables and rice. I would go to yours instead.

Just one? That’s sad. That just means that you need to go there and see what they’re all about. I haven’t seen The Food Truck show but have heard it’s pretty entertaining. I can’t watch Food Network at night since I get intense cravings (also the reason I cant read alot of blogs at night) and don’t have DVR so yeah, maybe once I’m back in the real world with DVR again.

Grilled goat cheese and prosciutto? My head just exploded. For reals. I MUST HAVE THIS.

Do you think it would ship well to Boston??

    • Tiffany says:

Seriously, words can’t express how frickin tasty it was.

And theres only one way to find out if it would withstand the overnight delivery…..
